Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival Wins Big at 2019 Colorado Governor’s Tourism Conference

The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce was proudly presented with The Governor’s Award for Outstanding Community Tourism Initiative this past weekend during the 2019 Colorado Governor’s Tourism Conference, hosted by the Colorado Tourism Office.

The award acknowledges an activity, event, or project undertaken by a community or region to promote tourism in Colorado, with the following criteria:

  • Well received by market constituents
  • Utilizes coalitions and/or partnerships
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation
  • Contributes to tourism and economy in community/region/state

This year marked the 25th year of the Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival, which has enjoyed continued growth and substantial economic impact for the Southern Colorado region.

The rising popularity of Pueblo’s famous crop, the Pueblo Chile, has been stoked in recent years by the heated debate between New Mexico and Colorado on whose chile reigns supreme.  “There is no doubt that both states are winners when it comes to great chile festivals.” Said Donielle Kitzman, Vice President of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce.

“We are proud to be honored this year and included with so many great Colorado Festivals. Next year we hope to see even more chile lovers from near and far experience the spicier side of Colorado during the Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival!” Said Rod Slyhoff, President of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce.
