Pueblo Chile Eating Contest: September 1st

Did someone say Pueblo Chile?! Saturday, September 1st is the official Pueblo Chile Day at the Colorado State Fair! We are celebrating with a Pueblo Chile Eating Contest. 

Saturday, September 1st, 2018 at 2:00pm Located at the AFW Amphitheater, Colorado State Fair

Judging Criteria: 100% Quantity of Pueblo Chiles (How many eaten) 

Each contestant begins with a bowl of 10 fresh Pueblo Chiles. Contestants must finish eating contents of the first bowl before receiving additional bowls. Contestant must compete for the entire 10 minute round to be eligible for prizes. During the water break, at the 5 minute mark, contestant may drop out of the competition but will be ineligible for prizes. In the event of a tie, the judges will select the winner based on Acting/Appearance. The entire Chile, with the exception of the stem, must be eaten and kept down by the contestant to be considered in the judges count. The decision of the judges are Final! The Pueblo Chile Growers Association, the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, festival sponsors, or any person affiliated with this con- test will not be held responsible for any adverse health conditions, such as heartburn or indigestion, created by contestant’s participation.

1. Call the Greater Pueblo Chamber to sign up (719) 542-1704.

2. Sign up at the Chile Booth in the Colorado Building at the Colorado State Fair.

1st Place: $100 Cash, 4 Tickets to the Chile & Frijoles Festival Presented By Loaf ’N Jug and a Pueblo Chile Hat

2nd Place: $50 Cash and 2 Tickets to the Chile & Frijoles Festival Presented By Loaf ’N Jug

Judges Choice: $50 Cash and 2 Tickets to the Chile & Frijoles Festival Presented By Loaf ’N Jug

 

About Pueblo Chile Day:

Join us for Pueblo Chile Day at the Colorado State Fair! The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce will be roasting fresh Pueblo Chile and giving away free sample-sized chile wraps in front of the Colorado Building until gone. Events also include a media conference at 12pm with Representative Daneya Esgar and a Pueblo Chile Eating Contest open to the public at 2pm.

The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Pueblo Chile Growers Association, has a booth inside the Colorado Building where you can take samples of fresh varieties of Pueblo-grown chile, purchase salsa, and stock up on Pueblo-Chile inspired merchandise!
