POWER UP at the 2018 Tourism Summit

Southeast Colorado’s SOCO Tourism Summit will be held on May 16-18, 2018 at the Pueblo Convention Center. The theme of this three-day event is POWER UP and it has been designed to engage, empower and unite Colorado communities, by giving them the tools they need to build tourism into an economic development strategy.

The Summit begins Wednesday noon with registration and 3 concurrent DIY Workshops to select from, depending on your area of interest and background. A Welcome recep-tion follows at Sangre de Christo Art Center to give participants a chance to mingle and network with other attendees and Summit speakers.

Cathy Ritter, Director of the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) takes the stage during Thursday’s noon luncheon. She will be presenting the finer points of the Colorado Tour-ism Office’s, recently adopted strategic plan, with the promise that ground is being bro-ken as the CTO aims to create a new traveler experience that embraces the non-urban areas of Colorado.

Thursday’s schedule is completed with 9 additional break-out sessions throughout

the day, covering topics such as: Where to get funding, Creating guided tours,

Adventure Recreation in your backyard, Is a website really necessary, How do you get free publicity and more.

Katherine Correll, Executive Director of Downtown Colorado, Inc. will open on Friday morning DCI is committed to building better communities by providing assistance to Colorado downtowns, commercial districts and town centers, with tourism being an inte-gral component. Learn how your community can benefit from the wide variety of bene-fits being offered by Downtown Colorado, Inc.

Community leaders, tourism boards, economic development boards, chambers of com-merce, business owners, students and elected officials will attend this conference to re-ceive a new awareness and knowledge of tourism development opportunities and re-sources, how to cultivate rural tourism and grow local economies. Attendees will leave the Summit with a clearer vision of their community’s visitor assets, hidden gems and historic value.
